“Life is short! Time is fleeting, but your impact doesn’t have to be. Learn practical ways to live with a clear, eternal perspective.”
Why should we learn to live with a clear, eternal perspective?
When we get to know God the Father through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we begin to live with a new purpose in life. Our perspective changes from living for earthly pleasures and goals to an eternal perspective – of living out God’s plans for our lives.
So what does God say about you when you have a personal relationship with Jesus? The article Who Does God Say that I am? shares these scriptures:
- God says I am His beloved child 1 John 3:1 John 1:12-13
- God says I am chosen, adopted into His Family Ephesians 1:4-6; 1 Thessalonians 1:4; I Thessalonians 2:13
- God says I am valuable. He calls me His workmanship Ephesians 2:10, Genesis 1:26,27
- God says I am redeemed. So valuable are we to God that He purchased us with the precious blood of His Son, Jesus Christ: 1 Peter 1:18–19, Ephesians 1:7
- God says I am a new person in Jesus Christ. Through His salvation, we gain an altogether new identity and a whole new life: 2 Corinthians 5:17
- God says I am His friend. Through a relationship with Jesus, God shares His heart with us. John 5:15
- God says I am His ambassador 2 Corinthians 5:20
- God says I am a member of Jesus Christ’s body: Ephesians 3:6
- God says I am exceedingly loved: “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” Romans 5:8
Transformation happens when we pursue Jesus Christ
Accordingly, the more we study the Word of God, the more we discover who we are in Christ. We are transformed into the person God says we are when we make Jesus Christ the pursuit of our lives, 2 Corinthians 3:18; Romans 8:29; Romans 12:2; Philippians 1:6; Ephesians 4:15.
So with that amazing list telling us who we are, shouldn’t we want to honor our creator with our life purpose. He had an eternal purpose for me and you before we were even conceived! Ephesians 2:10 Amazing right!!
I pray that if you are reading this and you are confused about who you are- your identity, what your purpose is in this life, that you will come to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord of your life.
As well, I encourage you to read the articles in the Further Reading section near the end of this article.
Life is Short! Do you have a purpose for your life that has eternal value?
Find your purpose, one you can actually state; it helps you to know who you are, what you can contribute to, what makes your life fulfilled.
A well defined purpose helps to:
- Focus your aims in life with an eternal perspective;
- Motivate you to get up every morning; spend time with God;
- Use time wisely;
- Create meaning through relationships, work, recreation and most importantly serving God as He leads daily.
Do you have a plan to put your purpose into action?
Having a Plan helps to:
- Schedule time for the important ‘aims and goals’ you have in your Purpose statement.
- Ensure adequate time to sleep to maintain health;
- Set aside time for what you love to do – your passion(s).
- Have balance in your life: relationships, family, work, personal growth.
Do you have a passion that you are engaging in?
Discover your passion(s) to help you focus time in those areas. If you are not sure of your passions, consider the following ways of detecting what they may be.
- Look for moments, conversations, situations that were highlights in your day;
- Review how you spend your time and money;
- Think about topics you like to discuss with or teach others.
- Determine your personal gifts, strengths.
Do you practice your purpose?

- Dedicate time in your schedule to engage with your passion.
- Spend time with those who share your passion;
- Expand your knowledge about your passions;
- Share your passion with others;
- Keep balance in all areas of your life.
Since Life is Short, I have a life purpose!

I love to research and write about how we can live in peace, with patience, passion and purpose in our relationships. The most important relationship being with Jesus who died to provide forgiveness of sin for all who will come to Him.
